KAHRAMAA Implements the First Electricity Substation for Q-Rail

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” has succeeded in achieving its strategic plans via generating the first electricity plant that serves Qatar Rail Company in Ras Abu Fontas area to provide Doha Metro Project with electricity which comes in line with the operational frameworks of the stations and serves the future projects in the State.
KAHRAMAA, in collaboration with the entire working team and Rail Company, has achieved operational works of the substation 132/33 KV where the project took 16 months and has completed in July 17, 2017. The plant will be supplied from Al-Thumama Super Station and generation plant at Ras Abu Fontas.    
The substation was designed with two separated systems for operation. The first one is 132 KV will be generated by KAHRAMAA and the second system 33KV will be generated by Q-Rail. In addition to the auxiliary transformers and all associated equipment, the substations were connected to Ras Abu Fontas and Al-Thumama super substations with the existing 2x132kV cable circuits, where it has been designed, constructed, and provided with adequate power for this project. Moreover, it has been planned to construct four more new substations (including one 220/132/33kVsubstation) and started before the end of December 2017.
This project considers a new achievement added to the Corporation’s achievements and one of the KAHRAMAA great challenges. It also based on the study of feasibility results related to implementation of several stations to feed new Rail projects as well as expansion of other feeding plants. Furthermore, it is one of the projects that quickly achieved, taking into account the station’s technical requirements via using technology that ensures continuity of electrical power during emergency situations. The project was supervised with full coordination of KAHARAMAA working team and senior management directions as well as working team of Q-Rail.  
It is worth mentioning that KAHRAMAA is keen to follow the highest standards of safety and security in all its activities and operations, including the project of Rail station, where the working hours reached till July 17, 2017 more than 3.375 working hours without injuries or incidents. KAHRAMAA also is keen to maintain the highest appropriate standards of working and living conditions for workers which positively affected the completion of the work.
