The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) and GE Power (NYSE: GE) today signed Principles of Cooperation (POC) for a ‘Power Efficiency and Fuel Savings Campaign.’

The POC was signed in Doha by His Excellency Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of KAHRAMAA and Russell Stokes, President & CEO of GE Power. The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency Ryan Gliha, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the US Embassy in Doha; Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE’s Power Services business in Africa, India and the Middle East; Ghassan Barghout, President & CEO of GE’s Gas Power Systems-Sales business in the Middle East and North Africa; as well as other senior officials of KAHRAMAA, the US Embassy in Qatar and GE.

KAHRAMAA President, HE. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari said, said, “Since its inception in 2000, KAHRAMAA endeavors to provide efficient, reliable, and sustainable services, and works through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” to save resources and achieve energy efficiency as per Qatar national Vision 2030, and Qatar development plans. GE will help us advance these efforts further with their solutions and on-the-ground knowledge. Our cooperation   will help better utilize fuel supplies, and reduce emissions to support sustainable development”

Under the POC, KAHRAMAA and GE will cooperate to explore ways to drive higher efficiency, flexibility and fuel savings across Qatar’s power sector by utilizing the latest technologies in the power generation sector, enhancing the performance of existing assets, as well as supporting KAHRAMAA in their future plans. The POC followed talks between KAHRAMAA and GE at the United States-Qatar Strategic Dialogue held in Washington DC earlier this year in January 2018.

His Excellency Ryan Gliha stated, “The United States and Qatar have long enjoyed a strong bilateral relationship and a shared vision for progress. Today’s signing helps enhance the relations between our two countries even further, laying the foundation for the transfer of GE’s advanced technology to support the strengthening of Qatar’s power sector, to the benefit of both industry and citizens.”

“Qatar National Vision 2030 defines a clear roadmap for the country’s long-term development. A central pillar of the Vision is the efficient use of resources to best serve current and future generations,” stated President & CEO of GE Power, Russell Stokes. “By enabling the supply of best in class technology and the modernization of existing power plants, today’s POC will help KAHRAMAA to better utilize fuel supplies, reduce emissions and improve asset management, transforming Qatar’s power sector to support the sustainable development goals of the country.”
