1

The second edition of Tarsheed Carnival, organized by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”, was kicked off on Thursday, 22nd March 2018, at KAHRAMAA Awareness Park under the theme "To Create a Conscious Generation”. The Carnival will continue until March 29.

Tarsheed Carnival includes many events and awareness activities for the public and private school students with a number of events that Qatar celebrates. The opening of the Carnival coincided with the World Water Day being marked on March 22 and the start of the GCC Conservation Week and Earth Hour to be held on Saturday, 24 March 2018. The events are held in morning and evening sessions. While the morning session focuses on school students from 8am to 12pm, the evening session is open to the public from 4pm to 10pm.

The Carnival aims to shed light on water issues. The theme of World Water Day this year "Nature for Water" explores nature-based solutions to the problems and challenges faced by water under the slogan "The Answer is in Nature". It also includes a number of events and activities to raise awareness on the importance of rationalization and energy efficiency to achieve sustainability through interactive activities, entertainment contests, energy efficiency techniques as well as theater performances.

In addition, the Carnival celebrates Earth Hour under the theme "Connect with the Earth" in solidarity with world celebration of this occasion on Saturday, March 24th. Earth Hour is one of the largest global environmental initiatives in which millions of people gather around the globe to switch off lights and unnecessary electrical devices for one hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. On this occasion, KAHRAMAA calls upon all agencies to participate in this global initiative aimed at raising awareness on the importance of cooperation in reducing emissions and protecting our planet in order to achieve sustainability.

The Carnival highlights the role of a number of governmental and private entities in Qatar that seek to achieve sustainability goals, including the Ministry of Interior; Civil Defense Department; Qatar Foundation through Qatar Green Building Council; Qatar Development Bank through Bedaya Center; Behavioral Health Support Center; Siemens Qatar; Global Water Sustainability Center; Aspire; Qatar Cool; Racing and Equestrian Club; Elite Recycling Company; Al-Manhal Water Factory Co Ltd; Al-Dana Girls Center; Engineering for Kids and other agencies.

In support of the national economy, a food court has been set up to motivate youth and small and medium-sized enterprises to continue.
