Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” and Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development (The Al-Attiyah Foundation) signed on Wednesday 1st May 2019 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the areas of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The MOU was signed by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Chairman of Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development and His Excellency Engr Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of KAHRAMAA, at the Sheraton Convention Centre, Doha in the presence of officials from both parties.

On this occasion, His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Chairman of the Al-Attiyah Foundation, signed the MOU said: “It gives me great pleasure to see my Foundation work in close partnership with this successful entity.  I hope together we can continue to ensure a better future for all the citizens and residents of Qatar.” Adding that, the achievements of KAHRAMAA is exemplified by the fact that all the citizens and residents of Qatar have access to affordable, reliable, sustainable energy, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene services. Qatar is among the few countries in the world that can boast of 100% availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Pointing out that KAHRAMAA’s initiative of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” has become a household name.

His Excellency Engr Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of KAHRAMAA, said: “Our collaboration with the Al-Attiyah represents a commitment to jointly mobilize stakeholders, to pursue initiatives that serve a better future for Qatar” adding that I was particularly pleased to witness, in October last year, the launch of the Al-Attiyah Foundation book on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Best Practice. It promotes CSR in Qatar, and thereby contribute to the implementation of Qatar National Vision 2030.”

After 10 years of implementation of QNV 2030, it is now considered an opportune time to reassess Qatar’s efforts to build a modern state with sustainable, integrated economic, social and environmental development, that leverage the available human and material resources to ensure a better future for all the citizens and residents of Qatar. In this context, the Al-Attiyah Foundation and Kahramaa has agreed that the first project under this MOU would be to host a joint strategic workshop on “Qatar National Vision 2030, Circular Economy and CSR”.

The main objective of the strategic workshop is to provide opportunity for holistic assessment of Qatar National Vision 2030, including a comprehensive stock-take of progress, impact of CSR initiatives of companies and organizations in Qatar, degree of integration of the concept of Circular Economy, and identification of gaps where reviewing or strengthening of the implementation of QNV2030 are needed.
